Cessna's New "All-Glass" Skylane is Certified

June 18, 2004
Wichita, KS - June 18, 2004 - Cessna Aircraft Company achieved full FAA type certification for the Garmin G1000-equipped 182T Skylane. The type certification was presented to Cessna officials during a brief ceremony held in Wichita, Kansas. This is the Garmin G1000's first FAA aircraft-level certification. Cessna's T182T Turbo Skylane will be certified in the coming days. Cessna anticipates Stationair and Turbo Stationair certification in August 2004.

Cessna's President and CEO Jack Pelton said, "We are very excited to receive this FAA type certification. Congratulations to everyone who has worked on making this a reality. Your commitment has enabled us to attain this noteworthy achievement within eight months of when we announced the G1000 on our single engine piston aircraft."

"Throughout our 77-year history, we have strived to design airplanes that are simple to operate as well as safe and fun to fly. We stayed true to that design philosophy when we chose the all-glass Garmin G1000 avionics. It was the ideal choice for our single engine product line because of its state-of-the-art integration and intuitiveness. The G1000 brings a new level of safety and situational awareness to the cockpit. Flying a Cessna is now better than ever."

In October 2003, Cessna announced Garmin's G1000 integrated avionics system as a 2004 factory installed, NAV III option on all Skylanes, Turbo Skylanes, Stationairs, and Turbo Stationairs. Within hours of the announcement, Cessna took over 300 orders from their Cessna Sales Team Authorized Representatives (CSTARs). Features most applauded by CSTARs and customers include:

- Integration of all primary flight, navigation, communication, terrain, traffic, weather, and engine sensor data on two large 10.4-inch glass, XGA resolution (1,024x768-pixel count) displays

- Solid State Attitude Heading & Reference System (AHRS)

- Dual integrated avionics systems with dual nav/com radios, dual VOR/LOC/ILS receivers, and dual GPS receivers

- Mode S Transponder with Traffic Information System (TIS)

- WX-500 Stormscope displayed on PFD / MFD

Cessna anticipates the first Skylane delivery immediately. In conjunction with the first delivery, Cessna will rollout an exclusive training program on the Garmin G1000.The training program is designed to familiarize customers with their new airplane and to promote the highest level of safety possible.

Cessna anticipates delivery of over 600 single engine aircraft in 2004. Of these, more than 90 percent of Skylanes and 75 percent of Stationairs will include the Garmin G1000 avionics.
