Jacobsen Adds a Disposable Bedknife to the MagSystem
Charlotte, NC - February 10, 2005 - Jacobsen®, A Textron Company has designed a new bedknife for its magnetic bedbar system that is ultra thin, ultra strong and disposable. This blade, aptly called the MagRazorä, offers one of the shortest cutting heights in the industry for faster greens, and a high-end tournament quality cut every time.
Like the MagKnife, the MagRazor is attached with magnets, no screws. Installation and removal take seconds. And unlike traditional bedknives, the MagRazor provides a sharp edge that's ready to cut as soon as it's removed from its box, eliminating time-consuming grinding. The magnetic technology allows technicians to change bedknives on-site rather than bringing the equipment back to the shop. Once the blade has been used, operators remove it and throw it away. No need for time-consuming sharpening and bedknife upkeep.
"This is a great, simplified piece of technology that in the long run will save us time and money," says Tom Huesgen, superintendent of Pebble Beach. "We are under the gun most all the times, so we need to get things done in the most efficient manner we can while providing the best results."
Huesgen is using MagRazors on his fleet of E-Walk electric greens mowers during the 2005 AT&T Pro Am this week at Pebble Beach.
"Time is always of the utmost importance especially during tournaments when greens conditions are constantly changing," says Huesgen. The MagRazor's thin profile and the flexibility of the magnetic attachment make it perfect for the dry conditions of tournament greens while maintaining aggressiveness for wet cutting situations. The MagRazor attaches to Jacobsen's MagSystem, which was introduced in 2004 with the MagKnife bedbar. The magnetic system freed superintendents from having to remove rusty, corroded screws - sometimes up to 17 - to sharpen their bedknives.
The system fits all of Jacobsen reel mowers such as the E-Walk, TC22, G-Plex, E-Plex, LF 1880 and LF 3400. The MagRazor bedknife is perfect for precision, tournament-quality greens conditions. Operators can use it once, and throw it away. The original MagKnife can be used everyday on both greens and fairways and lasts for more than 100 hours.
With both the original MagKnife and the new ultra-thin MagRazor, foreign objects such as broken tees, sticks, small pebbles and even coins, passed cleanly between the cutting blade and the bedknife without damage. Because unlike blades with fixed screws, the magnetic force allows the bedknife to give slightly when an object becomes lodged between the bedknife and the bedbar. As a result, objects can pass through, and the bedknife snaps back into place.
The MagRazor will be sold along with the MagKnife as an accessory to the MagSystem. Current MagSystem owners will receive a free set of MagRazor blades for trial.
