HR Textron Provides Key Aircraft Components for V-22 Osprey

July 17, 2006

Farnborough, England – July 17, 2006 – HR Textron (Santa Clarita, California), an operating unit of Textron Systems, provides actuation and fuel components for the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey. Textron Systems is a Textron Inc. (NYSE:TXT) company.

Joe Klocko, vice president, business development, HR Textron, said, "HR Textron is pleased to be a part of such an exceptional aircraft. All components are critical to flight success when you are dealing with an innovative and technologically advanced system such as the V-22. With our longstanding history in designing and manufacturing aircraft components, we know our customers look to us to deliver the highest levels of performance and reliability."

HR Textron produces twenty-six components on the V-22 aircraft supplying both Bell and Boeing directly as well as through Triumph Gear Systems. Key components include the primary and back-up Hydraulic Power Drive Units (HPDUs) that provide the power to rotate the engine nacelles between helicopter and airplane flight modes as well as the Rotor Positioning Unit (RPU) that positions the rotor blades to their properly indexed position for fold and storage onboard an aircraft carrier.

HR Textron also provides seventeen fuel valves for the V-22. Some monitor the amount of fuel in the multiple fuel tanks while others transfer fuel among the various tanks. HR Textron fuel valves also manage the refuel and defuel process for the aircraft. A recent addition to the V-22 aircraft is HR Textron's Fuel Probe Control Valve used to control the telescoping / retractable fuel probe. This control valve allows the aircraft to be easily stowed without first having to remove the V-22's nine-foot long fixed probe.
