AAI Services Corporation's Training and Simulation Division Achieves CMMI Level 3 Assessment from the Software Engineering Institute

March 20, 2008

Hunt Valley, MD - March 20, 2008 - AAI Services Corporation, a subsidiary of AAI Corporation, an operating unit of Textron Systems, a Textron Inc. company (NYSE: TXT), announced today that its Training and Simulation division has achieved Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability Maturity Model(R) Integration (CMMI(R))-DEV 1.2, Maturity Level 3 compliance for Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, and Integrated Product and Process Development.

The division satisfied the requirements of all 18 process areas included in the CMMI Level 3 Assessment using the Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement Version 1.2. Class A (SCAMPI A), which provides the most reliable ratings for benchmarking process improvements and validating capabilities. The SCAMPI A, led by Mark Rabideau, an SEI authorized high maturity lead appraiser from Process Enhancement Partners Inc., covered all AAI Services programs and projects as well as systems, hardware and software engineering disciplines. Mark commented that "the efforts of AAI Services' Training and Simulation division showed remarkable consistency and cohesion in the adoption and application of improvements."

"This milestone demonstrates AAI's belief that high quality processes are key to producing high quality products for our customers," said Paul Lavin, president of AAI Services. "It's a significant achievement and the result of superb teamwork in process development as we progressed from CMMI Maturity Level 2, which we achieved in 2005."

SEI is a federally-funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense and operated by Carnegie Mellon University. The institute provides technical leadership in advancing software processes critical to U.S. defense systems and ensuring predictable and improved cost, schedule and quality during system acquisition and sustainment. CMMI is recognized as the industry standard for guiding process improvements and benchmarking an organization's software engineering, management and acquisition processes.

AAI Services' Training and Simulation division is based in Goose Creek, S.C., near Charleston. Among its products and services are simulation systems and devices used by U.S. Air Force maintenance technicians for realistic, hands-on training in support of C-17 Globemaster III airlifters and F-22 Raptor fighter aircraft.
