Lycoming Engines Receives National Safety Council Award

Occupational Excellence Achievement Award Presented at Annual Meeting

Williamsport, PA - September 22, 2008 - At its 2008 Congress and Expo in Anaheim, CA, the National Safety Council will present its Occupational Excellence Achievement Award to Lycoming Engines, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company. The award recognizes companies that, based on U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics ratings, have outstanding safety records compared to similar organizations. As a winner of this award, Lycoming is acknowledged as a leader, setting an example in safety performance.

Lycoming's safety achievements include passing the one million hour mark without a lost time accident twice in the last three years. "We thank and congratulate all of our employees for their leadership and commitment to a safe work environment, safe work practices, and building a culture of prevention," said Ian Walsh, Lycoming senior vice president and general manager. "Everyone at Lycoming is proud of this accomplishment."

Scott Witmer, manager of Environmental, Health and Safety at Lycoming, stated, "Safety has the highest priority at Lycoming, and we all share the continuing responsibility of maintaining a safe workplace. This award demonstrates our employees' dedication to preventing accidents and reducing health risks."

In addition to Lycoming's award, Textron is being named one of America's Safest Companies by the National Safety Council's Occupational Hazards magazine.

The National Safety Council
