Vollie Carr Retires From Jacobsen After Nearly 40 Years In The Turf Industry

October 06, 2009

Charlotte, NC - October 6, 2009 - Vollie Carr, Jacobsen’s product and tournament support manager and one of the turf care industry’s leading experts in equipment design and maintenance, has retired from the company, effective September 30, 2009. Jacobsen is a Textron Inc (NYSE: TXT) company.

Vollie started his career in the turf industry in 1970, and joined Ransomes as a product specialist in the early 1980s. He joined the Jacobsen team when Textron purchased Ransomes in 1998 and has served as our tournament support specialist since that date.

He is considered by many to be one of the industry’s leading exponents when it comes to equipment design, maintenance, and adjustment to meet the needs of the golf course superintendent as well as the high standards set by the PGA and USGA tour staffs. He is recognizable by many of the industry professionals, both the seasoned veterans and the new generation of turf professionals.

Long-time colleague Ralph Nicotera, Jacobsen’s vice president of sales, commented, “It is with mixed feelings that we announce Vollie’s retirement from Jacobsen. However, I am delighted that we have entered into a consulting agreement, which will see Vollie continue to support tournaments for the balance of 2009 and through 2010.

“In April 2010, he will again be present supporting his 30th Masters Tournament, at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, GA; a distinction that very few will accomplish. Vollie has always worked hard to satisfy the needs of the turf professional in terms of matching product to the most stringent applications to achieve the highest quality of turf in terms of aesthetics and playability,” added Nicotera.

“We wish Vollie all the best in retirement and, at the same time, are delighted that he has agreed to provide tournament support consultancy through 2010; and in doing so, remaining active in the industry that he loves.”
