Cessna to Deliver CJ4 to Hahn Air for Unique Scheduled Service

October 09, 2011

Las Vegas, NV – October 9, 2011 – Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, said today at the NBAA Annual Meeting and Convention that Germany’s Hahn Air will this week take delivery of a new Citation CJ4. In a unique move, Hahn Air will operate the jet as a scheduled airline service, conducted as a codeshare, between Düsseldorf and Luxembourg.

“No other Citation in the world, nor indeed any other business jet to my knowledge, is operating with an airline flight number,” said Trevor Esling, Cessna’s vice president, International Sales. “Hahn Air’s CJ4 service will be an IATA-registered flight so a passenger could, for example, book with an airline to fly to Luxembourg and receive two boarding cards — one card for the leg to Düsseldorf and one card for the CJ4 leg to Luxembourg. And the same principle would apply flying to Düsseldorf via Luxembourg, of course.”

Daniel Rudas, Hahn Air’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, added: “We’re an established Citation customer, so we know the CJ4 will bring us the perfect combination of speed, comfort and reliability for this pioneering passenger service.”

The CJ4 is the newest and largest member of the CJ family. The aircraft gained Federal Aviation Administration certification in March 2010 and gained certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency as well as Isle of Man and Brazil earlier this year. Cessna is working to obtain certification in Canada and South Africa by the end of the year.

Cessna delivered 19 Citation CJ4 aircraft in 2010 and 16 through the first half of this year. The aircraft is approved for single-pilot operations and shares a common pilot type rating with the other CJs (a pilot rated to fly any one of the CJs is rated to fly them all).

The CJ4 has a range of 2,002 nautical miles (3,710 kilometers) and a top speed of 453 knots (839 kilometers an hour). The aircraft has a takeoff roll of 3,130 feet (954 meters) at maximum takeoff weight. The CJ4 is powered by two Williams International FJ44-4A full authority digital engine control engines and features a four-screen Collins Pro Line 21 avionics suite. A video highlighting the aircraft’s features is available on Cessna’s YouTube channel. Visit our gallery of CJ4 images.
