2012 E-Z-GO Golf Classic Raises More Than $50,000 for Local Civic Organizations

November 07, 2012

Annual tournament has raised more than $850,000 in its lifetime

Augusta, Ga. - The 2012 E-Z-GO® Golf Classic, an annual charity tournament hosted by E-Z-GO, raised more than $50,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the CSRA and The First Tee of Aiken. With the 2012 total, the tournament has now contributed more than $850,000 to local civic groups and organizations in its 18-year history.

More than 200 people participated in the event, held Oct. 8 at The Reserve Club at Woodside Plantation in Aiken, S.C. The tournament, a cornerstone of E-Z-GO's community relations program, drew participants from across the country.

"I am extremely pleased about the results of the 2012 E-Z-GO Golf Classic and the continued success of E-Z-GO's signature community event," said E-Z-GO President Kevin Holleran. "We are proud to support our hometown's youth and are thankful for the many companies and individuals who support the tournament, not just this year, but every year."

"I look forward to driving the lifetime contribution of the Classic past the million-dollar mark soon."

A four-man team from Augusta Coca-Cola won the two-ball tournament, posting a score of 25 under par on the Reserve Club's 6,671-yard Nicklaus Design layout. In addition to the tournament, the event raised funds through the raffle of a 2012 E-Z-GO Express S4 utility vehicle, and the raffle of more than 30 gift baskets designed and contributed by E-Z-GO employees. Forty-one companies also served as hole sponsors for the tournament.

Proceeds from the event will be split evenly between the Boys & Girls Clubs of the CSRA, which provides educational, athletic, mentoring and character development programs for at-risk youth through seven different centers in the Central Savannah River Area, and The First Tee of Aiken, which works to expose youth from all backgrounds to the game of golf and teach them important life lessons through the sport.

"E-Z-GO is a dedicated advocate for our local youth, and the Golf Classic ensures that our Clubs continue to provide the guidance and programs kids need to perform well in school, engage in their communities, and live healthy lifestyles," said Kam Kyzer, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the CSRA. "Through E-Z-GO's loyal support, we are seeing 98 percent of our regularly attending members promoted to the next grade on time each year. We are honored to be part of this wonderful event."

"Thanks to the generosity and hard work of E-Z-GO, The First Tee of Aiken is able to continue impacting the lives of thousands of youth and work to reach more youth with the amazing lessons taught by our organization, coaches and volunteers," said Elizabeth S. Smith, executive director of The First tee of Aiken. "We appreciate E-Z-GO's commitment to our community, and their focus on improving our community through the lives of our children."
