May 14, 2014

EW Europe/Edinburgh, UK — May 14, 2014 — Textron Systems Electronic Systems – a business of the Textron Systems segment of Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) – and its U.K.-based strategic business ESL Defence Ltd., today introduced the new Phantom Dual Threat Emitter. Part of the company’s family of long-range threat emitters, the Phantom system is designed to provide affordable, reliable training and confidence testing against both laser and missile threats.

The Phantom Dual Threat Emitter can be utilized to stimulate laser warning receivers and missile warning sensors on air, maritime and ground platforms. As an advanced training solution for range-based threat simulation, it provides crews essential countermeasure training experience under highly realistic conditions. In the field, the Phantom system provides critical pre-mission assurance of system performance and reliability.

“Our new Phantom system is designed to be a multipurpose asset for our customers, from the training range to the field, simultaneously or independently stimulating both laser and missile sensors,” says Senior Vice President & General Manager Steve Mensh of Textron Systems Electronic Systems. “As a result, our customers will be able to achieve multiple threat testing and training with one cost-effective, easy-to-operate product.”

The Phantom Dual Threat Emitter is handheld, battery operated and ruggedized. Portable and eye-safe, it is easy to program, aim and operate. Laser and ultraviolet profiles can be produced simultaneously or separately; in addition, the system can also simulate continuous wave or pulsed laser threats.

“We carefully designed our new Phantom system with ease of use in mind,” says Managing Director of ESL Defence Ltd., Bob Fox. “On the training range and in the field, customers can concentrate on the mission at hand, with confidence in the readiness of their warning and countermeasure systems.”

The company’s family of long-range systems includes the Griffen, Mallina, Phoenix and Man-Portable Aircraft Survivability Trainer, or MAST, which are designed to reliably and precisely train and confidence test a spectrum of critical installed Aircraft Survivability Equipment against a variety of potential threats. These solutions are in use by the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations around the world.
