TRU Simulation + Training Wins Bid to Produce A350 Full Flight Simulator for Lufthansa Flight Training

June 15, 2015

PARIS AIR SHOW, Paris, France, June 15, 2015 – TRU Simulation + Training, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today that it has won an award to produce an A350 FFS X Level D full motion flight simulator for Lufthansa Flight Training. The new business award represents a significant milestone for TRU Simulation + Training—as it is the company’s first venture into meeting the flight training solution needs for the next generation of wide body aircraft.

Consistent with Lufthansa Flight Training’s current mix of full motion flight simulators, the TRU-built A350 FFS X will include a forward-facing instruction station and the Rockwell Collins EP8000 Image Generation system. This platform continuity will give Lufthansa Flight Training the cost-efficiency and operational ease of shared visual data bases across its simulators. For the instructor and the pilot undergoing training, this provides the ease of use and time efficiency that comes from having a familiar instruction station environment.

“Leveraging and increasing our pilot training capabilities is critical to our continued ability to meet tomorrow’s training needs,” said Florian Hamm, Lufthansa Flight Training CEO. “We look forward to working with TRU Simulation + Training to deliver this A350 simulator to support the introduction of this new aircraft into Lufthansa’s fleet.”

Moving forward, the two companies will work together to meet a strict production schedule. TRU Simulation + Training will manufacture the A350 FFS X in its Montreal, Canada facility. The new A350 FFS X will be qualified to EASA CS-FSTD(A)  and FAA Part 60 standards for Level D use and is slated to be ready for training in either the Lufthansa Flight Training Center’s Munich or Frankfurt, Germany location by August 2016.

“Lufthansa Flight Training is a major entity in the aviation training market,” offered Jim Takats, TRU Simulation + Training President and CEO. “Historically, Lufthansa Flight Training has been a leading advocate for the use of flight simulation in pilot training. For both TRU and LFT, this represents a great opportunity to advance flight simulation training for pilots of the next generation of wide body aircraft. We are pleased and honored to win this award.”
