Aerosonde® UAS and RS2-H1 Vehicles Establish Multi-Domain Capability in GPS-Denied Environment

HUNT VALLEY, MD/March 25, 2022 – Textron Systems Corporation, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today its participation in the U.S. Army Futures Command Cyber Quest 2022 at Ft. Gordon, GA from March 14-18, where the company’s unmanned air and ground systems demonstrated cross-domain interoperability. During the event, Textron Systems’ Aerosonde® Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) demonstrated its ability to detect electronic targets using onboard payloads and cameras and then pass cues to our RS2-H1 robotic land vehicle without reliance on GPS. This interoperability further supports the Army’s emerging technology requirements for modular multi-domain operations.

“This unique teaming of autonomous air and land vehicles highlights Textron Systems’ ability to support a variety of teaming scenarios in the multi-domain battlespace,” says Wayne Prender, Senior Vice President of Air Systems. “We were able to show how our comprehensive portfolio of capabilities can be combined to serve the unique and ever-changing needs of our customers.”

Cross collaboration between the two unmanned air and land platforms improves effectiveness of their payloads by utilizing connective technology to enhance information speed and response. This interconnected platform approach also helps reduce the cognitive workload of supported personnel, allowing individuals to focus on critical operations while allowing the platforms to collectively guide and implement missions.

During the event, the Aerosonde platform was equipped with two advanced Electronic Warfare payloads providing critical battlespace intelligence and active effects to support the Army’s Cyber Quest event objectives. An enabling feature of the Aerosonde UAS is its open payload interface and modular mission compute architecture that facilitate rapid integration of technologies and data interfaces and increased situational awareness. As with the Aerosonde Mk 4.8 HQ aircraft competing for the U.S. Army’s Future Tactical UAS (FTUAS) Program of Record, the system can rapidly and reliably deploy intelligence from multiple sensors.

Cyber Quest is sponsored by the Program Executive Officer for Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors (PEO IEW&S) and Program Manager for Electronic Warfare and Cyber (PM EW&C).
