Mr. Nowell is a highly experienced board member, with extensive financial expertise and serves on the Board of Directors of American Electric Power Company where he is a member of the Corporate Governance, Executive, Finance, and Policy Committees; Bank of America Corporation where he is on the Audit and Corporate Governance Committees; and Ecolab, Inc. where he is a member on the Audit and Finance Committees. Additionally, Mr. Nowell serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board at The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Ohio Society of CPAs.

Mr. Nowell retired in May 2009 as Senior Vice President and Treasurer of PepsiCo, Inc. In this role, Mr. Nowell was responsible for PepsiCo’s worldwide corporate treasury function, including debt and investment activities, capital markets strategies, foreign exchange, insurance, and pensions.

Previously Mr. Nowell was Chief Financial Officer for The Pepsi Bottling Group (PBG). Before PBG, he was PepsiCo’s Controller. Mr. Nowell joined PepsiCo from RJR Nabisco, Inc., where he was Senior Vice President, Strategy and Business Development. At RJR Nabisco he played an active role in developing successful strategies to dramatically build shareholder value, including the sale of the company’s international business unit, and spin off of its snack food business.

Earlier in his career Mr. Nowell held a variety of senior financial roles at the Pillsbury division of Diageo PLC, including Chief Financial Officer of its Pillsbury North America, Pillsbury Foodservice, and Haagen-Dazs divisions. He also served as Vice President and Controller of the Pillsbury Company, and Vice President of Internal Audit. Prior to joining Pillsbury, Mr. Nowell spent eight years as a finance executive at Pizza Hut, which at the time was a division of PepsiCo.

Mr. Nowell is the author of two self-help books entitled “Sometimes You Have To Lose To Win,” and “You Are Better Than Your Best.” He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-Inactive), and received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from The Ohio State University.
