International Military Officers Hosted by Cessna

August 06, 2004
Wichita, KS - August 6, 2004 - Cessna Aircraft Company has the honor of hosting the United States Army Command and General Staff Officer Course (CGSOC) at their Mid-Continent facility on August 11, 2004. Every year, the CGSOC conducts courses for approximately 1,000 mid-level career U.S. and international military officers. The courses' mission is to prepare officers for duty as commanders and principal staff officers in various military units. The education the international officers receive from the CGSOC allows them to return to their countries with the skills required to help defend and preserve their own national security interests, which support U.S. foreign policy objectives. This year, 89 officers from 76 countries will visit Cessna and take facility tours.

The CGSOC has invited the media to attend the officers' general session on Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at 11:30 a.m. in Cessna's Customer Center at its Mid-Continent facility.

Since 1894, some 6,763 international military officers from 150 different countries have attended CGSOC. These international military officers have had a tremendous impact upon their military and country: 25 have become heads of state; 309 have become Ministers, Ambassadors or Representatives; 2,331 have attained the rank of general in their military; and 315 have become chiefs of staff of their armed forces or military service.

While in the U.S. taking their courses, the international military officers also experience many facets of life and culture in the U.S. Through a formal informational program, they visit and view examples of U.S. educational systems, judicial systems, local, state and federal governmental systems, and economic or business interests. Their time experiencing these activities will have a lasting impact upon how they view and ultimately support U.S. foreign policy objectives.
