Wichita, KS - March 30, 2004 - As announced during the 2003 NBAA convention, Cessna will release Runway Awareness and Advisory System (RAAS) Service Bulletins for in-service Citation X, Excel, Ultra, Encore, and Bravos in the 3rd Quarter of 2004.
Cessna is the first in the industry to offer customers this important new safety system. "Customer and aircraft safety is a priority," said Ron Chapman, Senior Vice President of Customer Service. "Citations are already recognized as being one of the safest fleets, and RAAS lets us take safety to a higher level. This system tells customers where their aircraft is on runways and taxiways, which will reduce the risk of runway incursions."
Cessna RAAS Service Bulletins feature software upgrades for Citation aircraft equipped with Honeywell Mark V & VII Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems. RAAS provides improved situational awareness to help lower the probability of runway incursions by providing timely aural advisories to the flight crew during taxi, takeoff, final approach, landing and rollout. Using GPS data, RAAS issues advisories based on aircraft position when compared to airport locations stored in the EGPWS Runway Database.
Should the aircraft enter a collision course with terrain despite the situational awareness afforded by the display, EGPWS sounds an audible alert beginning approximately one minute in advance of a pending collision. RAAS uses the same audible alerting system to keep pilots aware of the aircraft's position on the runway.
