Austin, TX - May 1, 2007 - Overwatch Systems, an operating unit of Textron Systems, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army that includes approximately $8M for software licenses and services. This contract consists of Viper licenses as the primary DCGS-A Application Framework (DAF) for application integration and collaboration in DCGS-A, Versions 3 and 4, as well as a government-wide license for the Viper software development kit (SDK). Overwatch expects to see continued heavy involvement in software architecture and development in this project, as Viper will act as the foundation for DCGS-A software deliveries. This contract is part of the Engineering, Technical and Operational Support Services (ETOSS) Contract with the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC) Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate (I2WD) for supporting PM Distributed Common Ground System - Army (DCGS-A).
With government-wide availability of the Viper SDK, the government and its contractors can now build plug-ins to use on the application framework.
"Use of Overwatch's software product line approach gives the Government an opportunity to leverage existing software investments by using a common framework to tie together software from various providers," said David Read, business area manager for Intelligence Systems. "We look forward to ongoing work with I2WD and PM DCGS-A in software architecture and development in Versions 3 and 4 and into the future."
