Oshkosh, WI - July 27, 2009 - Cessna Aircraft Company, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual week-long conference - AirVenture 2009 - it has issued optional service bulletins making available Garmin’s Synthetic Vision Technology (SVT) on all earlier production G1000-equipped 172 Skyhawks, 182 Skylanes, 206 Stationairs and Citation Mustangs.
Cessna is developing similar optional service bulletins to offer retrofits for the G1000-equipped Corvalis and Caravan product lines.
Earlier this year, Cessna announced SVT is now an FAA-certified production option for the Mustang and all G1000-equipped 172 Skyhawks, 182 Skylanes, 206 Stationairs and the Caravan product line.
The Cessna Garmin G1000 SVT gives the pilot a simulated 3D graphical representation of the surrounding terrain and displays the aircraft’s position in an enhanced topographical database. Garmin’s SVT also includes other features such as simulated 3D depiction of obstacle identification, traffic, flight path marker, zero pitch line, runway information and airport signs.
“Adding SVT to the cockpit is an exciting feature that gives the pilot more information to enhance decision making during flight,” said John Doman, Cessna’s vice president, worldwide propeller aircraft sales. “This brings an entirely new level of situational awareness into the cockpit that will significantly enhance safe operation of the aircraft.”
Owners interested in discussing SVT options for their aircraft may contact Cessna Customer Care at 316.517.5800 or any Cessna Authorized Service Center for the current status of international approvals or to order SVT.
