HUNT VALLEY, Md., Sep 09, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- AAI Corporation, an operating unit of Textron Systems, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today that it has delivered its new Advanced Architecture Phase, Amplitude and Time Simulator (A2PATS) to the U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division (NAWCWD) at China Lake, Calif., under a subcontract from Applied Geo Technologies, Inc. (AGT), of Choctaw, Mississippi. The A2PATS electronic warfare (EW) simulator was delivered and installed at the Navy's F/A-18 Advanced Weapons Laboratory earlier this year. As subcontractor to AGT, AAI is responsible for all A2PATS design, delivery and support activities.
"Our A2PATS system fills an urgent need for EW simulation, as aging simulators are reaching the limit of their ability to perform with today's new EW systems," says Vice President of Test & Training Systems Robert Peters of AAI. "Not only can A2PATS provide far greater capabilities than legacy systems, it can be utilized with most of the Navy's airborne EW systems. In addition, the A2PATS platform can adapt easily to future system needs."
AAI's A2PATS system verifies that aircraft EW systems can precisely locate, identify and defend against radio frequency (RF) threats including ground-based and surface-to-air missiles. A2PATS utilizes AAI's unique direct port architecture -- a modular, plug-and-play technology using identical phase-coherent, direct digital synthetic stimulus instruments as the RF source for all signals. This common RF source allows customers to reconfigure the A2PATS system easily for the desired signal density and number of ports based on their specific requirements, supporting system availability. In fact, the user can make all of these configuration changes without AAI support.
The continuously self aligning A2PATS system meets a growing list of testing requirements including single- and multi-ship geo-location, sensor fusion, air-to-air and air-to-ground multi-source integration, and data link testing and integration.
"Our customers need the confidence that their EW simulation and test systems will deliver precise, repeatable results for today's platforms, as well as future ones," says Peters. "The A2PATS system is modular, thereby providing greater flexibility, and we continue to look for additional ways to enhance its capabilities. As a result, we can offer a solution that will continue to provide value for customers over the long term."
