Bell Helicopter Recognized by Texas Veterans Commission

September 19, 2011

Fort Worth, TX - September 19, 2011 – Bell Helicopter, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, was recognized by the Texas Veterans Commission at its 64th Annual Statewide Training Conference held in Houston, Texas.  Bell Helicopter’s Military Aircraft Assembly and Delivery Center in Amarillo, Texas received the Large Employer of the Year Award for its successful efforts to hire veterans and its continued commitment to support the Texas Veterans Commission.

The Texas Veterans Commission Employer Awards are given each year in recognition to employers whose policies and achievements in hiring and retaining veterans are outstanding.  Bell Helicopter was nominated for the award by the Amarillo Veteran Commission as well as Texas Workforce Solutions of the Panhandle.

“Bell Helicopter has been one of the constant contributors to both the veterans-only job fairs and the Workforce Solutions Panhandle job fairs,” said Marshall Green, veterans employment representative with the Amarillo Texas Veterans Commission.

Bell Helicopter’s Military Aircraft Assembly and Delivery Center is a unique employer with a workforce comprised of almost 40 percent veterans.  Bell Helicopter works closely with veterans’ organizations, not only in the state of Texas, but across the nation, to match veterans and exiting service members with jobs at the Military Aircraft Assembly and Delivery Center.

“We have a high-performing work-force in Amarillo,” said Roger Williams, director of site operations at the center.  “The veterans who work here have an incredible sense of pride in what they do.  Many of them see it as their way of continuing to support our troops, and this is reflected in the way that we meet the quality targets and deadlines of the warfighter.  We are honored to receive this award and are committed to our workforce and our partnership with local veterans associations.”

The Military Aircraft Assembly and Delivery Center completes final assembly and delivery of the Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey, the UH-1Y Yankee, utility helicopter and the AH-1Z Zulu, attack helicopter. In January of this year, the facility welcomed the addition of the U.S. Army OH-58, reconnaissance helicopter, A2D cabin conversion program.

The Military Aircraft Assembly and Delivery Center came to Amarillo in 1999 as a partnership with AEDC and the City of Amarillo. The 1.2 million square foot facility sits on 17 acres near Amarillo’s Rick Husband International Airport.  Over 1,200 people are assigned to the facility and numbers are expected to exceed 1,300 in 2011.
