November 17, 2011

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov 17, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Overwatch, a strategic business of Textron Systems Advanced Systems, an operating unit of Textron Systems, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, announced today that its IM-PACTTM investigative analysis software has been named "Best Intelligence Data Fusion and Collaborative Analysis Solution" by Government Security News (GSN) as part of the publication's annual Homeland Security Awards program. IM-PACT is unique in its ability to support complex analysis needs faced by law enforcement and homeland security investigators, criminal analysts, terrorism task force teams and fusion centers (joint criminal and terrorism prevention and response centers).

Winners of the 2011 GSN Homeland Security Awards, selected by a panel of independent judges, were announced on Monday, November 14 in Washington, D.C. Overwatch earned a top honor among five finalists in its category. Category entries were judged on criteria including their ability to fill a recognized government security need, technological innovation or improvement, and flexibility of the solution to meet current and future organizational needs.

"For more than 15 years Overwatch has delivered critical multi-source intelligence and geospatial analysis solutions to our nation's warfighters," explained Don Hairston, senior vice president and general manager, Textron Systems Advanced Systems. "We're pleased we've been able to translate our intelligence analysis and data fusion expertise into a powerful tool that assists the important investigative work of law enforcement and homeland security agencies."

Developed in conjunction with law enforcement experts, IM-PACT is an easy-to-learn and user- friendly software solution that greatly simplifies investigations. The software also is fully 28 CFR Part 23 compliant, which stipulates standards and guidelines for operating federally grant-funded multijurisdictional crime intelligence systems and helps safeguard constitutional and privacy rights of individuals.

"Investigators at all levels are challenged by changing criminal and terrorist activities and the need to exploit and manage ever-increasing quantities of data," said Overwatch Director of Homeland Security & Law Enforcement Dee Brake. "IM-PACT offers a set of adaptive and scalable tools to help collect, manage and analyze the data that support effective investigations. We're gratified that the Homeland Security Award program judges recognized these capabilities and the tangible value they deliver."

IM-PACT supports both micro-level intelligence analysis of single or multiple criminal acts, as well as macro-level criminal investigations, such as tracking the movements of drug trafficking organizations or the growth of gangs and other crime organizations. Its advanced automation and investigative analysis capabilities include: data collection and fusion; link analysis for tracking and investigation of associations among individuals, facilities, activities and events; data visualization and temporal analysis tools; geospatial analysis and mapping tools; monitoring and notification services; and integrated case management tools.
