Rural crime prevention initiative uses new 1600XD-R utility vehicle
Ipswich, Suffolk - May 29, 2013 - A Cushman 1600XD-R utility vehicle in full police livery including blue flashing beacons, will be featured in Suffolk Constabulary's rural crime prevention initiative across the county this summer. Distributed by local turf maintenance equipment manufacturer, Ransomes Jacobsen, the utility vehicle replaces a fully liveried tractor, used to promote crime reduction messages at county-wide events last year.
Supplied by the local Ernest Doe branch at Marlesford, the 1600XD-R will act as a hook to attract the attention of members of the public at trade shows, county fairs, farmers markets and rural events throughout 2013.
The vehicle will help raise awareness of issues around metal, diesel and equipment thefts as well as burglaries, by providing an opportunity to engage with residents to make sure everything possible is being done to reduce rural crime and lower the chances of individuals and landowners becoming victims of offences.
Speaking recently at the handover of the vehicle, Paul Marshall, Deputy Chief Constable for Suffolk said, "Officers cannot tackle rural crime without the cooperation and support of communities and businesses. Policing in rural areas brings some very specific and unique challenges, with the distances involved and the isolated nature of some communities sometimes leading to a sense of vulnerability and a heightened fear of crime."
Matt Gough, Demonstration Fleet Manager at Ransomes Jacobsen added, "When approached by Chris Chilvers, Ernest Doe's Branch Manager at Marlesford, we didn't hesitate to loan them a vehicle. This is a typical UTV used by farmers across the county and they will readily identify with it, especially with its striking livery and flashing lights. We are delighted with the opportunity to help highlight issues around crime in rural areas, as well as promoting the range of crime prevention measures that can be implemented. Anything that can be done to highlight awareness and educate rural communities in an effort to reduce theft has our full support."
