D. Burney & Sons Makes Iseki Investment

November 09, 2017

Ipswich, Suffolk (November 09 , 2017) D. Burney & Sons, vegetable and salad growers based in Clitheroe, Lancashire, has taken delivery of a new Iseki TM3185 compact tractor to assist with planting potatoes and rotavating crops on its 3-acre site in Tarleton.

The family-run business used to produce over 1000 boxes of tomatoes under contract for a major supermarket, but has since chosen to focus efforts on its retail business in Clitheroe, which was founded in 1949 by the current owner, Richard Burney’s father.

Commenting on the recent investment of an Iseki tractor, Richard said:

“We have been using an Iseki tractor that is now 40-years old. It has served us very well considering its age, but the time had come to purchase a new one. We use the Iseki TM3185 mainly for planting potatoes at our site in Tarleton, and also at our other site in Little Hoole. Our old Iseki tractor currently has a forklift attached to it, so we are still putting it to good use!”

The Iseki TM3185 is powered by a 15 hp diesel engine and features 4-wheel drive and differential lock providing solid traction in any ground conditions. Robustly constructed, its narrow wheelbase makes it the ideal workhorse for narrow or restricted working environments.

“I had never dealt with F.R. Sharrocks before, but I approached the company to talk about our needs, and the Iseki TM3185 was recommended,” Richard said. “I have tried other brands in the past, but the Iseki is by far the most comfortable tractor I have used. As a sufferer of Sciatica, I find that I can sit on the Iseki all day without a problem, whereas I have had issues getting on and off other tractors in the past.

“I would like to thank Sharrocks for the help and advice it’s obliging staff have given me; a new tractor is a big investment for a small family-run business to make, but we are delighted with our purchase. My son is especially pleased with it and seems to have developed a recent sudden interest in tractor work!”

D. Burney & Sons grow specialist vegetables and salad including new potatoes, tomatoes, French beans, cucumbers, red spring onions and the rare French breakfast radish. Richard’s wife and two children work for the company, with a further three people being employed during the summer months. The family has also recently purchased and opened a new animal and bird feed centre in Clitheroe.
